Spectra - Winter 2019

2 Editorial Welcome to the first edition of the refreshed spectra! We hope you’ll find the new look magazine more engaging, more informative and more relevant to staff, patients and visitors than ever before. The new eight-page magazine is packed with features sharing the work of our dedicated NHS Tayside teams, projects and departments. Our favourite new feature is the staff competition which is easy to enter and gives NHS Tayside staff the chance to win a fantastic prize in every issue! Check it out on the back page. And don’t forget to open the LowDown that pops into your inbox every Wednesday as we’ve teamed up with NHS Staff Benefits to give you news about the latest discounts and offers for NHS staff on a whole range of things. You’ll also find news about donations, staff retirements and long service awards in the LowDown so it’s definitely worth a nosey! The new look spectra will be issued four times a year straight into your NHS email inbox and shared electronically with our patients and visitors. We’ve listened to your feedback and reduced the number of printed copies although some hard copies will still be available. We want to hear from you! Let us know your opinion of the new magazine and if you think your team or project should be featured, contact us at communications.tayside@nhs.net Chief Executive Grant Archibald talks about his warm welcome to Tayside and his plans to understand the heart of NHS Tayside by meeting staff and visiting departments and services. “Since I joined NHS Tayside I have embarked on a series of visits to different areas of the organisation. I felt as a new chief executive that it was important to take the opportunity to get out and about to introduce myself to staff and see firsthand the great work that is taking place in Tayside. “I have to say that I have been extremely impressed by what I have seen so far, particularly the enthusiasm and commitment of all the staff and also the warmth of the welcome that I received from everyone I met. I will be organising more visits to various services and I hope to meet many more of you in the coming months. “Having just taken up post one of my first official duties was to launch NHS STAR Awards 2019. I was delighted to launch these awards and the opportunity to meet with some of the winners from last year. “These awards are a great opportunity to recognise the hard work and dedication of our staff and I very much look forward to attending the award ceremony in May.” Introducing our new Chief Executive spectra | Issue 94
